International Firefighters’ Weekend: Inside Look with Chief Marc Bashoor

A conversation between Jonathan Tate, Washington DC firefighter and founder of Food on the Stove, and Marc Bashoor, Fire Chief (ret.), Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.

Well into Chief Bashoor’s decades-long career in the fire service, he experienced a pair of personal wake-up calls that prompted him to get serious about fitness and nutrition. In a lightbulb moment, he realized that he needed to be physically able to do anything he asked his fellow firefighters to do. 16 years later, he has lost 90 pounds and hits the gym six days a week.

This Equipped Talk is a special preview of International Firefighters’ Weekend, hosted May 4-6 by D.C. nonprofit Food on the Stove, which is dedicated to equipping firefighters with skills to build and maintain healthy lifestyles. During the event’s May 4 Health & Training seminar, Chief Bashoor will deliver a presentation called “Could You Rescue You?” where he will focus on nutrition, moral focus, and mental toughness.
