Law Enforcement and the Autism/IDD Community

The last 15 years have seen an increase in service calls involving individuals affected with varying degrees of autism and other intellectual development disorders. The ability to identify and appropriately respond to these disorders is vital to ensure effective interactions as well as safety for all involved. Officers Laurie Reyes and Tara Bond provide an overview of what is now known as the Montgomery County Police Autism and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Alzheimer's, Dementia Outreach Program. Implemented by Officer Reyes in 2005, the program provides Montgomery County police and other surrounding agencies with the necessary tools to ensure positive/effective and safe interactions.
